The Prince, for many is the first modern treatise about the art of governing. Its author, Nicholas Machiavelli (1469-1527), spent more than a decade at the forefront of diplomacy For the Republic of Florence. Neither his ingenuity nor his negotiating skills freed him from political struggles, and the return of the Medici to his to his city led him to being abolished to exile. Our author was very knowledgeable, including how the royal power was exercised, and from this perspective he wrote his work. He loved to instruct on the mechanisms of government and warn against the strategies of tyrants, although his advice was often misunderstood, he showed us the use of and gave us the term that is still in use today, «Machiavellian». However, it continues to be a reference text that defends current ideas such as «What the citizen perceives weighs more than the reality one faces». In times of «Post-Truth» nothing is more useful than reading.
