En los últimos años, debido a la gran influencia de las redes sociales y empujados por la crisis del COVID-19, los movimientos negacionistas, las pseudociencias y diversas actitudes anticientíficas han cobrado una visibilidad insólita. Para contrarrestar las críticas que provienen desde estos sectores, Antonio Diéguez se propone una defensa de la ciencia alejada de los tópicos habituales, que se han consolidado en una imagen poco acorde con el modo en que hoy se practica la investigación y que suele provenir de ideas filosóficas que, aunque hayan sido útiles en el pasado, conviene revisar. Partiendo de la idea de que no existe un método científico como tal, Diéguez traza un recorrido que pone en valor tanto el objeto como el alcance de la ciencia e insiste en la importancia del naturalismo metodológico, en el papel de la búsqueda de la verdad, en la inevitable incertidumbre de muchos contextos y en la dificultad de cualquier caracterización que quiera dar cuenta de los aspectos fundamentales de la investigación científica actual.

In recent years, due to the great influence of social networks and driven by the COVID-19 crisis, denialist movements, pseudosciences and various anti-scientific attitudes have gained unusual visibility. To counteract the criticism that comes from these sectors, Antonio Diéguez proposes a defense of science that is far from the usual topics, which have been consolidated in an image that is not in line with the way in which research is practiced today and that usually comes from ideas philosophical ideas that, although they have been useful in the past, should be reviewed. Starting from the idea that there is no scientific method as such, Diéguez traces a route that values both the object and the scope of science and insists on the importance of methodological naturalism, on the role of the search for truth, in the inevitable uncertainty of many contexts and in the difficulty of any characterization that wants to account for the fundamental aspects of current scientific research.
